Hi, welcome!
I have never lived in Banja Luka so I cannot say much, hope someone else can weigh in with more info.
However, I was there recently and it seems to be a pleasant place with an improving standard of living. A lot of new construction going up and a good cafe culture in the town centre.
You would have to bear in mind though that it is hardly a world metropolis. Also there is the whole political issue of Republika Srpska's general antipathy towards the Federation - it basically functions separately from Sarajevo in many respects.
Still, seems like a place you could spend a while in, great food (Banjalučki Ćevap is a MUST - go to the greasiest restaurant you can find!) - just not sure about a real long-term stay... _________________ Odista - professional English and Serbian translation services.

Hi Markowe,
Thanks for the information. I enjoyed reading your stuff about Serbia on other threads. I've never been to BL, I've just been reading about Bosnia.
Based on your experience, how would you compare it to Belgrade (I've spent some time there)? Obviously it's much smaller and, as you said, no world metropolis. Public transportation? Easy to find English speakers? For some reason it seems like a fascinating place, I don't really know why!
And as for the status of the RS in relation to the federation, from the news it appears there are once again grumblings about "reconfiguring" everything, but what's new, eh.
Nice forum here, really cool of you to share you insight like this. We just need to flush out more expats to get all these sub boards hopping! |
