There are just so many beautiful and largely unknown (to foreigners) places to visit. But do investigate the state of the road before you set off. Eg. the Road to Zabljak from Niskic is really only negotiable by 4WD. One of the potholes was so big in 2005 that the police had put an old refrigerator in it to stop cars falling in.

Aha, the Old Kitchen Appliance school of road maintenance! Only in Montenegro!
The roads are a bit of a death-trap there, it has to be said - Montenegro (and Serbia) have one of the highest accident rates in Europe apparently. I remember it snowing once, and driving from Podgorica to Budva through freshly-fallen snow - there were people driving like nutcases, as though the road were dry as a bone, overtaking, flying into bends, without a care in the world. I really wanted to get off the road fast that time... |
