One of the joys of life in the Balkans is comparing the standards of Public Conveniences.
To date the facility that was furthest from meeting European minimum standards was the one at Bar Bus Station in Montenegro.
Just a room ankle deep in water with somewhere a hole in the floor which could really only be found at midday due to the lack of lighting.
A couple of years ago a new one was built in a purpose built building. Within a few months it had been reduced to the standard of the previous one.
Maybe we could set up an annual award scheme. |

This could work, I remember a film called Trainspotting where they showed (jokingly) the worst toilet in Scotland. I've seen a few like that.
Would photo's be too graphic? |

The toilet at Bar bus station, Montenegro, is indeed (or was, last time I was there, about 3 years ago) among the worst toilets I have had the displeasure of entering (and leaving very quickly).
It quite literally just had not been cleaned in MONTHS probably.
The only worse toilet I have seen was in Zagorsk, Russia, at the monastery. It was a kind of cave in a hillside and you could see that it had once been furnished to more or less resemble a public toilet. However, inside was almost complete blackness, every fitting except the toilet bowls themselves had been ripped out, and there was a uniform layer of filth covering every square centimetre of the inside of the "facility". As for the last time it had been cleaned, well, probably the last time Peter the Great visited... |
